My Background  and What I Do

        Ellie Egan, LMHC

For the past 26 years I have been working with clients with a wide variety of issues, Including Depression, PTSD, Dissociative Disorders, Phobias and other Anxiety Disorders. I have also worked with people on the problems of everyday life, such as relational problems, procrastination, underperformance, issues around trust and intimacy, and making life changes.

My clinical training encompasses the gamut of psychological disorders, with a focus on PTSD and other Anxiety and Dissociative Disorders. I have extensive training in Trauma Theory and in the developmental underpinnings of psychological disorders, including psychoanalytic theory. My approach to therapy is integrative, incorporating Hypnosis, Mindfulness, EMDR, Internal Family Systems Therapy, Energy Therapy techniques,Trauma Therapy and Psychodynamic therapy according to the needs and desires of each client. Some people come to me for long-term therapy and others for brief, focused work on a particular issue.

I have been doing hypnosis for 27 years. Since I work with many clients with PTSD and anxiety disorders, I help people to relax deeply, and to learn to relax themselves by practicing Self-Hypnosis. I have  a specialty in treating the symptoms Irritable Bowel Syndrome and other gastric disorders. I also help people with chronic pain from other disorders and injuries.

Many clients come to me wanting to stop habits that disrupt their lives or cause health problems, such as overeating, smoking and other habits. Hypnosis can be a powerful tool for change, particularly when combined with self-monitoring and mindfulness to increase self-awareness.

Some people come to treatment because they are unhappy but have been stuck -- unable to make the changes that would facilitate growth and greater happiness. We work on procrastination, assertiveness, values clarification, enhancing performance (e.g. for public speaking or taking tests), and goal setting.
