Internal Family Systems (IFS)
Since 2003 I have been using Internal Family Systems Therapy to treat clients with PTSD and Dissociative Disorders, obsessive though patterns, anxiety, relational problems, anger, and a variety of other issues. This modality approaches treatment by helping people explore various emotional states that can dominate their experience of themselves, world and, hence, their way of relating to others. A person who is stuck in a state of helplessness can feel unable to face the demands of daily life, unable to conceive having healthy relationships, and hopeless about making changes that would enable a happier future.
I often combine Internal Family Systems with mindfulness skills, which enables the client to develop a perspective on the thoughts that underlie these undermining emotional self-states. Many of my clients have found this combination extremely effective in enabling them to shift out of negative, crippling moods and back to calmer, more realistic and hopeful state in which they can do the things that create a better life.IFS can be used effectively in conjunction with Clinical Hypnosis and EMDR.
